Harmonic Ellipse® 3000 Encoder by Harmonic Drive

The Ellipse®3000 collection encoder leverages Harri's industry-leading compression technology expertise, with a flexible system architecture that delivers new broadcast-level video quality and efficiency contributions for applications.
The versatility of multiple formats and codecs, low latency, and optional integrated modulators make this new compression platform ideal for Digital Satellite News Gathering (DSNG) and fixed contributions. Its compact footprint and plug-and-play deployment offer additional benefits with lower ownership costs.

The ELP3000 encoder supports all HD and SD MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 AVC codecs with 4:2:0 or 4:2:2 chroma subsampling, in 8-bit or 10-bit formats. With a comprehensive firmware upgrade, the encoder provides a smooth and cost-effective migration path from MPEG-2 SD 4:2:0 8-bit to AVC HD 4:2:2 10-bit compression schemes, making it one of the most versatile contribution encoders available. The re-multiplexing and cascading options allow the device to operate independently without the need for an external multiplexer or PSI generator.

With only 1 RU, the compact and robust ELP3000 encoder is a perfect fit for DSNG vehicles, ground stations, and airborne packages for C, Ku-band, or Ka-band operations. Two models are available to ensure deployment is tailored to the user's application system:
•ELP3100
For contributions fixed on the IP network, with both IP and DVB-ASI outputs.
•ELP3200
DSNG application; an integrated simultaneous DVB-S/S2/DSNG modulator has been added.
L-band, IF and DVB-ASI output

Business Advantages
Essence of Video Quality
The use of AVC HD 4:2:2 10-bit encoding delivers exceptionally vibrant video, enhancing your ability to provide clients with the highest quality video.
"Pay-as-You-Grow" Scalability
Video codecs and formats can be easily added to the Elliptic 3000 encoder through firmware upgrades, providing a scalable migration path that offers operational flexibility, business continuity, and extended system value.
Low CAPEX and OPEX
The integrated modulator of the ELP3200 eliminates the need to purchase expensive external equipment for satellite uplink. The DVB-S2 technology utilizes advanced coding techniques to improve spectral efficiency, offering bandwidth savings of up to 30% compared to DVB-S. The small footprint and low power consumption are inherent features of the two ELP3000 encoders.
Further reduce operating costs.
Integrated redundant path support
At the same time, the L-band intermediate frequency ELP3000 encoder and DVB-ASI output provide a backup channel in the event of a link failure.
Comprehensive Reuse
A "Master" ELP3000 encoder can aggregate content from "slaves" into a single MPTS output at a maximum of 50 Mbps, eliminating the need for an external multiplexer.
To the final contribution solution
The ELP3000 encoder is the perfect complement to the Harrier PVR™7100 integrated receiver decoder. It compresses AVC HD 4:2:2 10-bit video with the ELP, and then the PVR7100 decompresses it at the same sampling bit rate, resulting in a workflow that contributes nearly lossless video quality.
Content Protection
The ELP3000 encoder helps prevent signal interception and supports industry standard BISS (Basic Interoperable Scrambling System) Mode 1 and BISS-E encryption.
Technical Advantages
Video Encoding
Utilizing the industry's most advanced silicon and ASIC compression technology, the ELP3000 encoder delivers exceptional quality with a compression data rate of up to 80 Mbps and CABAC (Context-Adaptive Binary Arithmetic Coding).
Audio Encoding
The ELP3000 encoder supports up to 4 stereo audio channels (or eight mono) embedded/AES or two analog stereo channel inputs. A range of sampling rates, an internal sample rate converter (SRC), and an advanced encoding scheme ensure reliable and high-quality audio encoding.
Low latency
The low latency on the ELP3000 encoder helps eliminate awkward pauses when switching between live and studio talent, and is suitable for all encoding modes.
Usability
The simple control menu structure can be accessed through the front panel operation menu or the web graphical user interface. It is specifically designed for transmission applications, frequently used for key operational controls, and can be accessed via hotkeys.
Plug and play
Quick boot time prepares for action. The ELP3000 encoder can be configured with presets that allow multiple users to save and quickly recall settings, enhancing the ability to get airborne quickly. Switching between 4:2:2 low delay and 4:2:0 modes, for example, is easily accomplished on the GUI, thereby eliminating...
Different production settings require manual adjustments.
Packet Loss Mitigation
The ELP3000-over-IP video application uses the SMPTE 2022 protocol for the encoder to minimize packet loss, inserting Forward Error Correction (FEC) into the data packets of the transmission stream. The receiving device for these packets detects lost packets and automatically recovers them when loss occurs.
Efficient multicast of multiple services
The ELP3000 encoder supports the creation of multiple single program transport streams, which can be multicast to 16 different ports or IP addresses. A separate PSI is generated for each SPTS. Users can choose optional BISS scrambling for each SPTS with an independent scrambling key.
High-speed data transmission via satellite
The Elliptical 3200 encoder supports data transmission rates of up to 20Mbps, utilizing ETSI EN301 192 DVB MPE encoding. This enables the transmission of IP data packets over satellite using MPEG-2 transport streams.
Modulated Output
The modulator ELP3200 on the motherboard offers DVB-S/S2/DSNG transmission modes, with QPSK, 8PSK, 16QAM, and 16APSK constellations. This encoder supports IF or L-band output, which can be directly fed into a converter, providing a very compact uplink package. The integrated modulator supports
The standard and extended roll-off factors are 15%, 10%, and 5%, which effectively utilize the bandwidth of high transponders.
L-band monitoring
The L-band monitoring output of the ELP3200 encoder provides real-time, robust information on field monitoring modulation as it propagates.
Compact Footprint
The ELP3000 encoder occupies only 1 RU and requires space above or below it without ventilation, saving rack space and reducing power consumption.
