LiveU MatrixThe cloud-based IP distribution platform will become the core support for multi-level, mission-critical frameworks.
The European Broadcasting Union, a global leader in public media alliances, has recently signed a five-year contract with LiveU to provide around-the-clock real-time news content for the European News Exchange Network. This symbolic move marks the European Broadcasting Union's further transition from traditional satellite systems to IP distribution and hybrid distribution models. Renowned for its high reliability and credible content, the European News Exchange Network will leverage LiveU Matrix to facilitate live signal distribution among its member stations, covering Europe and the globe.
60Multiple public media organizations will achieve interconnectivity.
The project connects over 60 public service media newsrooms across Europe and globally through LiveU technology, further strengthening public broadcasters' trust in transmission based on LRT™ (LiveU Reliable Transport) and the SRT protocol. After a rigorous evaluation process, LiveU was selected as the core platform due to its rock-solid reliability and flexible scalability. The project also includes a phased deployment of LiveU Ingest for cloud recording and content sharing workflows, covering both primary and backup channels, with pilot programs currently underway at 15 member organizations.
Emilio San Pedro, Head of News at the European Broadcasting Union, stated: "This project is a milestone for the broadcasting industry. Major public service media worldwide are embracing cloud IP workflows to achieve faster, more sustainable, and cost-effective news content distribution. LiveU's Matrix platform fosters closer collaboration among Europe's leading broadcasting organizations, providing global audiences with seamless and sustainable live news services."
Piotr Kaszynski, Project Manager at the European Broadcasting Union, added: “In the midst of intense competition and a tight selection process, we are very pleased to ultimately choose LiveU to replace the old European News Exchange editing and distribution system. By the end of 2025, this new solution will bring greater flexibility and faster deployment, enabling member stations to continuously and reliably access live signals from the European news exchange network. With the seamless integration of LiveU Matrix and the existing field equipment of member stations, this system will further enhance collaboration and create greater value for members and partners.”
MatrixCore Platform for Transformation
LiveU Matrix IPThe distribution platform is the core of this transformation, enabling members to efficiently gather, edit, and distribute live news content, while flexibly sharing temporary signals with external sources. This solution integrates 125 LiveU receivers deployed at member institutions, utilizing a dual-active redundancy architecture. The dual-channel parallel flow between the cloud and the receivers ensures uninterrupted service across all sites. This advanced dual-active mechanism provides Matrix with high reliability as the main distribution system, while also complementing satellite systems. The project architecture also employs a multi-region, multi-vendor contingency plan, leveraging global cloud service providers to build a highly resilient, multi-tiered system. The solution includes proactive monitoring and scalable channel configuration to support high-demand distribution during major news events.
LiveURoy Hasson, Vice President of Global SaaS and Solutions Sales, stated: "We are honored to collaborate with the European Broadcasting Union to drive this historic leap forward. LiveU's solutions have long been adopted by many member organizations of the union, and gaining the official trust of the union is of great significance to us at LiveU."
This milestone fully demonstrates LiveU's strength in secure transmission, mission-critical reliability, and high-performance delivery, as well as our ability to provide scalable and interoperable solutions. The Matrix platform, with its outstanding cost-performance ratio, has become a core distribution tool relied upon by numerous top-tier clients. We are honored that the various teams within the alliance have worked closely together to gain a deep understanding of their business needs, ensuring that our solutions effectively support their vision. LiveU will continue to be dedicated to helping public media organizations reach global audiences and drive client success.
Deployment Progress and Future Plans
The project was initiated and deployed earlier this year, with LiveU Matrix being utilized in several major news events, including the papal election conference. The project is expected to be fully deployed by January 2026, at which point the European Broadcasting Union will gradually phase out satellite-based production workflows and transition entirely to a hybrid distribution and IP-based content acquisition system.
