Harmonic NSG™9000-40G is the latest generation of the Harmonic ultra-dense universal edge QAM system, capable of delivering 648 QAM RF unit outputs. Designed as a highly integrated digital video gateway, it transmits on-demand content over IP networks. The Harmonic NSG 9000-40G is engineered for scalability, allowing for QAM density to increase from 8 to 648 QAMs. In addition to providing unparalleled output density, the NSG 9000-40G is designed to support a variety of applications, including Video on Demand (VOD), Switched Digital Video (SDV), broadcasting, Modular Cable Modem Termination Systems (M-CMTS), and Direct Cable IPTV (D2E) edge.

Stream Processing
The NSG 9000-40G is housed in a modular 2-RU chassis and performs PID filtering, multiplexing, scrambling, QAM modulation, and RF amplification of up to 648 MPEG transport streams simultaneously. The NSG receives MPEG over TS through its Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) ports; it supports 10 GbE SFP+ ports and then directs the video from different QAM data to create outgoing QAM RF output signals of the transport streams.
The NSG 9000-40G also fully supports the requirements of DOCSIS 3.0 for downstream M-CMTS data transmission.
Modular
To maximize scalability and flexibility, the NSG 9000-40G is a fully modular design system. The chassis has nine QAM RF module slots; each module has two RF ports. Each port can support up to 36 Annex B QAM channels and Annex A and C, or up to 27 QAM channels using different traditional RF module frequency conversion technologies, allowing flexible distribution across the QAM channel spectrum. The system can accommodate two redundant AC or DC power supplies for load-sharing capability—maximizing MTBF and providing the highest reliability.
