Harley's entire presentation will include CCAP, NPVR, ultra-high-definition video formats, and HEVC compression at the SCTE Cable-Tec Expo®, booth 1154.
Harmonic (NASDAQ: HLIT), a global leader in video delivery infrastructure, will showcase its latest video processing and transmission solutions designed to enhance operational efficiency, reduce costs, and deliver exceptional video quality in cable and multi-screen environments. As a market leader in pay-TV encoders, IPTV headends, and cable edge QAMs, Harmonic's industry standards enable cable operators to economically provide users with high-quality video experiences anytime, anywhere, on any device.
A key highlight of the 2013 Cable Technology Expo is Harmonic's NSG Pro converged cable access platform (CCAP), which offers the densest and highly scalable architecture to support the flexibility required by multi-service operators to meet their evolving bandwidth demands," said Asaf Matatyaou, Director of Cable Edge and Access Solutions at Harmonic. "We are in the process of integrating NSG Pro with several applications from major cable operators in North America, including video on demand, switched digital video, and M-CMTS. NSG Pro has successfully completed environmental specification testing under extreme conditions. As multi-system operators transition to an all-IP infrastructure, the density, flexibility, and investment protection provided by NSG Pro are critical for a cost-effective transition. We will demonstrate these capabilities and more at the expo."
The selected demonstration of the NSG Pro includes: the capabilities of the wired edge harley will showcase the latest NSG Pro, which focuses on future high-density universal edge QAM capabilities. The integrated CMTS functionality simplifies the cable access network and eases the transition to a fully IP-based cable television infrastructure. With industry-leading QAM density and nonlinear video convergence capabilities, video on demand, and data into a single system, the NSG Pro provides cable operators with a simple and flexible upgrade path towards a comprehensive CCAP and fully IP infrastructure, while minimizing operational costs, as well as power and rack space requirements.
In the areas of encoding and streaming, Harmonic recently launched the world's first HEVC/Ultra HD broadcast with satellite operator SES ASTRA, leading the way in the commercial deployment of HEVC compression technology utilizing Ultra HD. At this expo, Harmonic will showcase HEVC-compressed Ultra HD content through PROMEDIA™ high-performance file-based transcoding at 3-7 Mbps. During the event, Harmonic will demonstrate an end-to-end multi-screen workflow using its award-winning PROMEDIA™ multi-screen application software suite and ProStream® ACE stream processor and transcoder. Highlights include the company's HEVC-ready PROMEDIA Instant real-time multi-screen transcoder, integration between the PROMEDIA packaging stream preparation system and PROMEDIA origin streaming server, as well as new ad insertion and monetization capabilities. The integrated front end featuring the ProStream real-time stream processor and the market-leading parental encoding platform will also be showcased. Harmonic's ProStream 9100 new feature for linear ad insertion allows for ad stitching directly into live MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 AVC SD/HD transport streams, increasing revenue opportunities for operators. With the industry-leading Electra™ universal multi-functional, multi-format encoding platform, the company will demonstrate additional MPEG-2 compression gains, enabling operators to free up spectrum and provide new services based on their MPEG-2 set-top boxes.
