LiveU cheers for the Pacific Games.

LiveU's IP ecosystem successfully replaces satellite broadcasting.
The Pacific Games were established in 1963 with the aim of strengthening the connections between the Pacific Islands and surrounding countries through sports. Held every four years, the Pacific Games encompass 24 sports, including archery, athletics, basketball, football, judo, and rugby.

The 2023 Pacific Games will be held in the Solomon Islands from November 19 to December 2, 2023. During the Games, LiveU's IP ecosystem successfully provided live broadcasts to participating countries and audiences in other regions. The organizers chose LiveU's technology comprehensively this time due to its cost-effectiveness and flexibility, based on LRT™ (LiveU Reliable Transport technology), which allows for the distribution of live video to broadcasters and other recipients in the Pacific Islands, Australia, and New Zealand with the highest level of flexibility. Throughout the competition, the LiveU team has been on-site providing technical support and services.

Traditionally, global broadcasts of sports events have been transmitted via satellite and centralized production, allowing only limited content to be live-streamed. The organizers hope to achieve IP-based video live streaming through the public internet, simultaneously distributing production videos from different venues to various production centers to enhance cost-effectiveness. LiveU's video management platform, LiveU Matrix, can meet the organizers' needs.

At the same time, a LiveU compact 5G encoder LU300S was deployed on-site for point-to-point transmission, LiveU Ingest for cloud recording on-site, and a rack-mounted LiveU transceiver for uplink and point-to-point transmission.

Paul Vunituraga, the manager responsible for broadcasting the 2023 Pacific Games, mentioned: “The Games hold significant meaning for many people and regions, as it may be the only opportunity for regional teams to participate in international competitions. To broadcast to a larger audience, we have been searching for low-cost, high-efficiency solutions to replace satellite broadcasting. LiveU's IP technology has provided us with many new opportunities, emotions, and excitement. The results were as expected: despite the challenging environment on the island, the quality and scope of live production remained at the highest level throughout the event. We were not only able to broadcast all sports events but also focus on creating more and better content, expanding our reach to new audiences.”
Chris Dredge, LiveU's Regional Manager for the Pacific, reflected, "It is a great honor for the LiveU team to be involved in the live broadcast of this sporting event. The entire production and live broadcast process was very successful, becoming another strong application case for the LiveU ecosystem. This project effectively showcased the penetration and application of LiveU technology throughout the entire workflow of live production, broadcasting, and cloud distribution for large sporting events, successfully replacing traditional broadcasting methods for major sports competitions."
