India's Digicable Chooses ATEME for High-Quality Transcoding

2012-3-19

Digicable, the second-largest cable television operator in India, has chosen ATEME's flexible and cost-effective transcoding platform, TITAN, for all its video-on-demand transcoding needs. As competition in India's pay-TV market intensifies, Digicable opted for ATEME due to its high performance, flexibility, and value for money. Asif Khan, Chief Technology Officer of ATEME, stated, "Our expectations for performance and throughput are high, but we also have to be market-aware, as cost margins are tight and competition is fierce." ATEME not only met these expectations in terms of cost and performance but also provided a scalable solution to support our future needs.

ATEME offers customers like Digicable the flexibility to reuse their target device platforms, which are increasingly diverse, including personal computers, tablets, and smart content. To reach such devices, operators need to support key adaptive bitrate streaming formats, such as Apple's HLS (HTTP Live Streaming) and Microsoft’s Smooth Streaming. These formats are included in ATEME's TITAN transcoding platform, which is designed to transcode multiple profiles simultaneously.

ATEME's editing tasks, such as trimming and concatenating files, along with support for joining multiple sequences, provide significant added value for Digicable. In the TITAN workflow, long feature films originally on multiple tapes can be automatically assembled into a single VOD file. These features make TITAN increasingly popular among operators deploying multi-screen services, according to Boureau, Vice President of Sales at ATEME. "TITAN currently serves over 700,000 users worldwide with a combination of linear channels, video-on-demand, and catch-up services across televisions, computers, tablets, and smartphones."
