Introduction to Advertising Distribution System

The Advertising Distribution System is a broadcast advertising control system specifically designed for radio stations by Beijing Oneband. This system, built on the foundation of completing daily broadcasting tasks at radio stations, offers the functionality to provide targeted advertising services in different regions.

Function Overview

Advertising Production and Broadcast Management:

  • Ad Insertion Machine File Management: Manage the advertising audio files to be downloaded and broadcasted on each ad insertion machine by region, including file list, add, delete, preview (check), and upload (to the broadcast machines, which consist of one primary and one backup unit).
  • Advertising Program Schedule Management: List (by day of the week, listing programs from various locations), Add (specify the region, convert format and check if related audio files exist, verify advertising time), Delete (generate corresponding cancellation commands), Check (display the program schedule, with a preview option), Upload (to the broadcasting machine, with one primary and one backup unit).
  • Ad Insertion Machine Control: Enable/disable advertising functions, update software, etc., with both single address and all receivers control options.
  • System Operation Monitoring: Check and display the operational status of servers, broadcast computers, and ASI switchers, and perform fault alarms and logging.

Advertising Insertion Technical Specifications:

1) Interruption Timing and Synchronization

  • The advertising insertion machine is equipped with a real-time clock that has an accuracy deviation of less than 0.4 seconds per day, allowing it to avoid waiting for time calibration after a brief power outage.
  • The internal real-time clock of the advertising insertion machine is periodically calibrated by the broadcasting system clock to ensure synchronization between the original program and the inserted advertisements, with a calibration accuracy better than 0.2 seconds.
  • To avoid noise at the start and end points of the insertion, there is a 0.5-second silence for each.

2) Advertising Download Method and Insertion

  • Each advertising insertion machine is assigned a region based on an address, which is a configurable 8-digit code.
  • In accordance with the characteristics of advertising operations, the downloading of advertising audio and the advertising program list is completed independently. Large advertising audio files can be downloaded to the advertising insertion machine in advance, while smaller advertising program lists can be downloaded one day or even shorter in advance to ensure flexibility in advertising arrangements.
  • Based on a 256Kbps MPEG compressed file, the advertising audio can store up to 1 hour.
  • Each advertising insertion machine can accommodate up to 88 advertisements, updated by the headend control; the program list storage is designed for 7 days a week, allowing for the program list to be downloaded up to 6 days in advance.
  • The advertising insertion machine inserts a group of advertisements each time according to the advertising program list, with a maximum of 25 advertisements per group, which can be played continuously in any combination from the advertisements stored in the machine.
  • Each advertising insertion is controlled by the start time and the total insertion time (length of the advertising period), with precision down to the second; the number of advertising insertions per day does not exceed 64 times.

3) Advertising Interruption Rules

  • Priority is given to ensuring the normal broadcast of original programs.
  • If a FLASH storage failure or real-time clock failure occurs, stop the advertisement insertion.
  • If the advertisement inserter has never received a clock correction command, it will not insert advertisements.
  • If the interval for the clock calibration command of the advertising inserter exceeds the specified time, the advertising insertion will be paused.
  • If there are ad files in a group of ads to be played that have not been fully downloaded, the ad insertion will be canceled.
