Information on IPQAM Edge QAM Modulator

bNSG is a broadcast edge QAM system based on the modular Network Services Gateway™ (NSG9000) hardware platform. This system is designed as a highly integrated digital video gateway, multiplexing broadcast content transport streams over IP networks. The NSG9000 platform is designed for scalability, with the QAM density of each device capable of growing from 1 QAM to 54 QAM. In addition to providing unique output density, bNSG is also designed to be robust and highly available, supporting MPEG processing and scrambling within a single device.

  1. Transport Stream Processing
The bNSG9000 is a 2RU high rack-mounted device that can simultaneously perform PID filtering, multiplexing, scrambling, QAM modulation, and RF upconversion for up to 54 MPEG transport streams. The bNSG9000 receives digital MPEG transport streams via GbE ports, then controls multimedia entry into different QAMs and creates output transport streams with QAM-RF output signals. The bNSG9000 is also designed to support real-time DVB simulcrypt.
  2. Modular Structure
Harmonic's NSG9000 platform features a fully modular design that maximizes its flexibility and scalability. Its chassis backplane employs a passive design, with all processing and functional modules being pluggable. The bNSG9000 chassis provides 9 QAM RF module slots, each module featuring 2 QAM RF output ports, with each port offering 3 adjacent frequency QAM RF output channels (Annex B/C, 4 channels). The system can be configured with two DC or AC power supply modules, which serve as backups for each other.
The processing module includes 3 1000BaseT ports and 3 SFP optical module slots, as well as 2 10/100BaseT ports for management and CAS. An onboard ASI monitoring port is available for monitoring internal transport streams via an MPEG analyzer. For ease of operation, both the bNSG9000 QAM RF modules and power supply modules are designed to be hot-swappable, allowing for smooth upgrades without service interruption. The removable front panel of the bNSG9000 device unit allows for field replacement.
  3. Management
The bNSG features a local control panel with an LCD display and buttons for accessing device information and performing basic configurations. The bNSG9000 can also be comprehensively monitored, controlled, and managed for statistics and alarms through Harmonic's NMX Digital Business Management System. Through NMX, operators can create strategies such as low-latency 1:1 automatic redundancy backup and socket redundancy backup.
