Harmonic's NetProcessor™ 9030/40 is an advanced MPEG-2/MPEG-4 AVC SD/HD transport stream multiplexer and processor, equipped with powerful features.
As part of the NetProcessor video and networking solutions series for digital television applications, the NetProcessor 9030/40 is ideally suited for broadcasters, content providers, and network operators looking to transition from traditional DVB ASI environments to IP infrastructure, as well as localize or repackage content. Key features of the platform include multiplexing, remultiplexing, PSI/SI processing, transcoding, splicing, data injection, ad insertion, and scrambling of hundreds of services received via DVB ASI and telecom interfaces. The NetProcessor 9030/40 can also function as a bandwidth manager, utilizing Harmonic Flextream™ hybrid remote multiplexing technology to aggregate encoders from local and different geographical locations within the same encoding pool that has transcoded program inputs.
In addition to its multiplexing capabilities, the NetProcessor 9030/40 can also serve as a DVB-T2 gateway. The system can encapsulate multiplexing in a DVB T2-MI stream, providing signaling, transmission, and synchronization parameters for the DVB-T2 modulator, serving as a deterministic method for generating the final broadcast signal in a DTTV SFN environment. Conversely, the NetProcessor can receive multiple T2-MI streams at the input, de-encapsulate each PLP, and provide the resulting multiplex for processing.
NetProcessor also utilizes Harmonic SingleFeed™ technology. The multiplexing can be generated in DTH format and deterministically converted to T2-MI stream by the Harmonic RD1100 IRD for DTTSFN transmission. SingleFeed is a highly cost-effective solution that allows multiplexing to generate support for DVB-T2 and DTH distribution. This is particularly advantageous for countries with complex terrestrial terrain.
The implementation of these functions includes a range of interfaces, including ASI, Gigabit Ethernet/IP, PDH-SONET, and SDH/ATM. These different I/O options allow the NetProcessor platform to replace multiple legacy multiplexers and network adapters with a single device. The NetProcessor 9030/40 combines flexibility, scalability, and serviceability to handle almost any scenario, even those involving high bit rates, heterogeneous interfaces, or video/audio processing, as well as scrambling or IP stream processing.
