Grass Valley today announced the latest version of its nonlinear editing software, which supports 4K workflows. "No other nonlinear video editing software has provided users with such real-time speed and functionality as EDIUS," said Mike Cronk, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Grass Valley, in a statement. "Its compatibility with all major file formats, real-time editing capabilities without the need for rendering—even in its native 64-bit architecture for 4K—means that EDIUS is the ideal solution for broadcast or post-production environments."

EDIUS 7 is expected to be released in the third quarter and will be demonstrated this September at the International Broadcasting Convention in Amsterdam. The software is a native 64-bit application for Windows 7 and Windows 8 operating systems and is now open to third-party input and output hardware from Blackmagic Design and Matrox. EDIUS 7 supports real-time editing performance for any combination of standard definition, high definition, 2K, and 4K resolutions on the timeline, with increased CPU power. It is also optimized for multi-core systems and Intel's fourth-generation Core i CPUs. The software will be released in two versions: EDIUS Pro 7, aimed at professional, standalone users, and EDIUS Elite, designed for collaborative editing in networked production environments.
