One of the professional ice hockey teams in the United States, the Edmonton Oilers have always believed in the power of digital media and provide content to fans through social media. The team later launched the Oilers+ exclusive streaming platform, allowing fans to watch behind-the-scenes content, live shows, pre-game/post-game programs, press conferences, and other exclusive content.

After testing and trying out multiple products, the Oilers decided to adopt LiveU's technology because LiveU's solutions are simpler and more user-friendly. Currently, LiveU's live production-grade encoder LU800 and compact encoder LU300S are being used at various hockey arenas, producing OTT and social media content for a total of 82 games.
Throughout the season, there are special events such as outdoor competitions that require live broadcasting and coverage. The "NHL Heritage Classic" is one of Canada's famous outdoor games held in an open-air stadium. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the event, and the Oilers production team needs to elevate the level of live production to a new standard to provide fans with richer content.

The 2023 Timeless Classic was held at the Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, Canada, with over 60,000 fans in attendance. This is an outdoor stadium, and the production team did not want to rely solely on the venue's network connection for live broadcasting; instead, they aimed to move freely throughout the stadium and capture exciting moments from various angles. During the Timeless Classic, the team employed a remote production workflow centered around LiveU. They equipped the pre- and post-game press conferences with LiveU encoders, along with several cameras dispersed around the vast venue. All live video was transmitted to the production control room located at Rogers Place in Edmonton, where editing, switching, and overall control and production were managed.
The production team leader said, "LiveU has expanded our shooting perspectives and mobility for remote and outdoor broadcasts. And all of this has been achieved so easily that we can focus on live production and creativity. Thank you, LiveU, for your technological innovation!"

The establishment of the team's platform not only provides loyal fans with more opportunities for engagement but also significantly increases the team's revenue. The monthly subscription model of the Oilers+ platform has led to an increase in OTT subscribers from 10,000 in the first year to over 20,000 in the second year, while revenue from live broadcasts and subscription-related content has exceeded $1 million.
